We are delighted to announce that the 32nd World Congress of the IALP will be opened by Hon Marama Davidson
(Ngāti Porou, Te Rarawa, Ngāpuhi).



Marama co-leads New Zealand's Green Party and holds portfolios relating to social care within the government.
Marama is delighted to welcome our international visitors to Aotearoa. She has lived experience communications
disability through her father, Rawiri Paratene, a giant of New Zealand theatre, now living with aphasia.
A family of activists, disruptors, and change-makers, language and communication have been thei lifeblood.
Translating Shakespeare into the reo Māori is just one of her father's many achievements.



A strong and outspoken human rights and environmental activist, Marama is also Mum to six children and also,
a grandmother. Of her Dad's aphasia, she says "He communicates differently now...it has been a journey for o
ur whanau to see him work so hard to be able to speak again."
